Let Your Pitt ID Work For You:
Things you can get for free or
at a reduced price with your Pitt ID

Transportation
Van Call. The Pitt late night van shuttles students from campus
building to campus building, residence to campus building, or campus building
to residence. You are required to show your ID. The van also
picks up from the Greyhound Station on Sundays. The van will not
make advance reservations, and it will not travel to or from the South
Side Sports Complex. The van runs 7:00pm to 3:00am Sunday to Wednesday
and 7:00pm to 5:00am Thursday to Saturday. To call for a van: 412-624-1700.

Also, don’t forget that students ride free on Port Authority buses
and light-rail vehicles.

say the people staffing the
phones are informative, helpful, and polite.
Pitt students are also able to ride CMU shuttles for free after 7pm
on weekdays and all day

Health and Welfare
The university runs a number of pools, gyms, and fitness centers that
are open to students.

Free counseling services are available to all students through the
university counseling
offices. More information at

Remember that $65 student health fee that showed up on your tuition
bill? Put it to good
use! Your student health fee allows you to be seen at the University
Medical Sciences
Building. Services provided include general medicine, contraceptive
options, allergy
injections, routine lab work, on-site radiology, dermatology, gynecology,
internal medicine,
and orthopedics. The student health services office also runs
healthy living seminars on
everything from stopping smoking to stress management. There
is also a pharmacy that
offers prescription and nonprescription medication as well as vitamins
at a very reasonable
fee. You do not have to have seen a doctor to visit the pharmacy.

Classes and Careers
Want to get a jump start on finding a career? The Career Services
Office is located in
the William Pitt Union. Counselors there will help with planning
a job search, critiquing
your resume and cover letter, and negotiating a contract. The
office also offers job
fairs, mock interviews, and walk-in advising. Check out their

If you need help on a paper, try the Writing Center. There,
writing tutors can help you
with everything from brainstorming to citations to proofreading.

Libraries
The university of Pittsburgh has reciprocal borrowing agreements with
several universities and colleges in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia,
including Carnegie Mellon University. For information about how
these agreements work, visit the library homepage at

and look for the page on reciprocal borrowing agreements under the "Services"
menu.
Also, anyone who lives in Allegheny County may apply for a borrower's
card from the Carnegie Public Library. If you do not live in Allegheny
County but have a Pitt ID, you can also get a borrower's card from the
Carnegie Library. Present your ID at the circulation desk of Hillman
Library. Hillman will then give you a letter that you can present at
the Carnegie Library in order to get your card.
Theater
The Pittsburgh Public Theater offers $12 single tickets to full-time
students and
individuals under 26 years of age with valid ID. For all shows
except Friday and Saturday
night, you can order by phone. Friday and Saturday tickets are
available at the door only.
Tickets are in designated areas only and are subject to availability.
This season, the
Pittsburgh Public Theater is offering Much Ado About Nothing, Driving
Miss Daisy, The
Drawer Boy, The Piano Lesson, Dirty Blonde, Man of La Mancha, and
The Reduced Shakespeare

For cheap tickets to theater, opera, ballet, and other cultural activities,
check out the
cheap seats program, which offers reduced price tickets to select
performances. Tickets
are bought at the PITT ARTS office in the William Pitt Union and picked
up at the venue box

Film
The Pittsburgh Filmmakers shows foreign and experimental films at
the Harris
Theater (809 Liberty Avenue downtown), Melwood Screening Room (477
Melwood Avenue), and
Regent Square Theater (1035 S. Braddock Avenue). Pitt students
receive $1 off tickets

Sports
Pittsburgh Penguins: Advance student rush tickets can be bought the
day after a home game
for the next home game at the Mellon Arena Gate #1. Two tickets
per ID may be bought.
Tickets are $20 each, cash only. Game day student rush tickets
may be bought one hour before the game. Again, two tickets per ID
may be bought. Tickets are $20 each, cash only. Buy them at Mellon

Pittsburgh Panthers: Individual tickets may be bought in the William

The Carnegie Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Andy
Warhol Museum, and the
Phipps Conservatory are all free to students with Pitt IDs.
