Did
you know?
SIS Survival
Tidbits
Revised and Reprinted from the November 9, 2001
Issue.
Have you had a hard time
finding your way around? Do you feel like you just do not know what
is available to you as a SIS student? We, your Bibliofile
editors, have experienced that same dilemma as new graduate students.
Sensing that we were not alone, we decided to search for new (at least
to us) and useful information to support your life as SIS students. The
following is a list of those finds:
-
Did you know that Rachel
Callison is no longer the Assistant to the Department Chair? Janie
Weaver, a recent SIS graduate, has replaced her. Ms. Weaver welcomes
your DLIS questions and concerns. You can contact her at jweaver@mail.sis.pitt.edu
or (412) 624-7666.
-
Did you know that the last
day to register for Summer Term is May 6, 2002?

and Fall 2002 financial aid deadlines have passed? The deadline for both
terms was January 15, 2002.

Annual Conference is fast approaching? This year the conference will
be held in Atlanta, Georgia from June 13th through June 19th. Visit

semester SIS students can apply for funding to attend professional conferences?

are mailboxes for graduate students outside of the DLIS office on the sixth
floor of the SIS building?

is a United States Postal Service office within the Mellon Institute (on
the corner of Bellefield and Fifth Ave.)? Enter the side door facing
Bellefield.
-
Did you know that there
is student locker space on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the SIS
building? The locker space in the Swamp (on the second floor) is
filled. All lockers require students to provide their own padlocks.

field placement application forms are available online? Visit
http://www.sis.pitt.edu/~lsdept/intern.htm

-
Did you know that the Bellefield
Gymnasium is free to all students with a Pitt ID? It is located at
315 South Bellefield Avenue (Between Fifth and Forbes Avenues).
-
Did you know that there
are job binders located in the SIS Library behind the circulation desk?
These notebooks contain listings/advertisements for available LIS jobs
throughout the country. Also, some jobs that do not post electronically
are in the binders.

don't know? If you have any information that might be useful to other
SIS students please contact us with your ideas - pdj7@pitt.edu or pnm9@pitt.edu.
